[ABSTRAK
Tesis ini membahas tentang fungsi edukasi dari museum. Penelitian ini
merupakan penelitian yang bersifat deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Hasil
dari penelitian ini mengindentifikasikan bahwa edukasi dan eksibisi Museum
Batik Pekalongan masih bersifat tradisional. Eksibisi museum belum ada
kesesuaian dengan program edukasi. Museum Batik Pekalongan belum
memperhatikan kebutuhan dan harapan pengunjung museum.. Kenyataan ini
dapat dilihat dari proses penyampaian eksibisi dalam bentuk edukasi masih
berorientasi pada koleksi. Penekanan penyajian pada keindahan motif dan warna
koleksi kain batik, sehingga keterangan koleksi belum menyampaikan pesan
makna simbolik dan pengetahuan yang berhubungan dengan penggunaan kain
batik tersebut. Permasalahan ini perlu diatasi dengan menentukan kebijakan
museum terhadap koleksi, program edukasi dan pengajar, sehingga kalangan
pengunjung dari sekolah dan masyarakat umum akan mendapat pelayanan edukasi
sesuai yang dibutuhkan. Pembahasan dalam penelitian ini berupaya merubah
konsep pelayanan Museum Batik Pekalongan menjadi berorientasi terhadap
kebutuhan pengunjungnya. Bentuk edukasi Museum Batik Pekalongan perlu
menggunakan teori pendidikan. Teori balajar didaktik digunakan untuk program
edukasi eksibisi museum, pemanduan dengan dialog dan keterangan koleksi.
Sementara teori konstruktif digunakan untuk praktik membatik di bengkel batik
museum.


ABSTRACT
This thesis discusses the educational function of museum. This study is a
descriptive qualitative approach. Results from this study identified that education
and exhibition Museum Batik Pekalongan is still traditional. Museum exhibitions
there has been no compliance with educational programs. Museum Batik
Pekalongan not yet consider the needs and expectations of museum visitors. This
fact can be seen from the process of delivering an exhibition in the form of
education still oriented to the collection. The emphasis of the presentation on the
beauty and color collection of motif batik cloth, so that information collection has
not yet submitted the symbolic meaning of messages and knowledge associated
with the use of batik cloth. This problem needs to be addressed by determining the
policies of the museum collections, educational programs and faculty, so that the
visitors from schools and the general public will receive educational services as
needed. The discussion in this research effort to change service concept Museum
Batik Pekalongan to be oriented towards the needs of visitors. Museum Batik
Pekalongan forms of education need to use the theory of education. Theory of
didactic is used for exhibitions museum educational programs, guiding the
dialogue and information collection. While the constructive theory are used to
